HEAR THE FUTURE WITH PMC
PMC recently unveiled their new prophecy series, a range of five home audio loudspeakers that bring a modern design aesthetic for the brand, as well as a variety of new performance enhancing technologies.
The five models in the prophecy range are:
The prophecy range is available in Natural Walnut, Mediterranean Oak and Blackened Walnut finishes, with real wood veneers obtained from sustainable sources. The front grilles are held in place using concealed magnets and have a bespoke open-weave, textured fabric.
The prophecy range features a radical enhancement to PMC’s Laminair technology which works in tandem with their Advanced Transmission Line (ATL). The new Laminair-X has undergone a radical redesign, negating turbulence, reducing resistance and harmonic distortion by up to 3dB. The result is better bass with precision timing and an outstanding dynamic range. The newly developed Laminair-X vent is incorporated into the heavy extruded aluminium base of the cabinet, which also serves to "ground" the speaker for even better control.
The long-throw bass drive units have been developed specifically for this range, matched to the ATL, for a linear design, which deliver the deepest frequencies, without imparting any colouration on the midrange.
The drivers utilise an ultra-light but rigid, mica-filled cone material, while the pro-studio honed 26mm soft-dome tweeter features a specially designed dispersion grille that assists with ultra-controlled directivity up to 180 degrees.
The three-way designs incorporate a 55mm soft dome mid-range, as used in PMC’s professional studio models and the Ci series. Its distinctive ‘n-compass’ sculptured profile surrounds the midrange driver, enhancing its response and offering an ultra-wide and stable image.
Basically Sound recently attended an exclusive preview of the new range at the Royal Academy of Arts, followed by technical training and listening sessions held at Wired Masters, a mixing and mastering studio in South London that uses PMC’s professional models.
We were able to experience a pair of bookshelf prophecy1 models against their impressive BB5/XBD pro-designs and it was clear that these compact monitors offered a tonality of presentation & voicing that was remarkably similar to their pro-siblings. The prophecy floor-standing designs offered increasing mid-range presence and bass depth with the flagship prophecy9 offering a stunning listen which far outperforms the loudspeaker's cabinet size.
PMC have also moved to using all cardboard packaging for the new prophecy lineup, discarding the use of polystyrene in the process whilst cloth bags will be used instead of plastic.
Basically Sound already have the complete prophecy range (NB stereo pairs only) on order for demo - expected in the early part of 2025.
The prophecy range is priced as follows:
